Shir spends me 糯米饭，I
can’t eat much.
After work, window shopping, I gonna shop Mum a
Christmas present, to the book shop, saw a paper weight with ‘Peanut & his
dog’ written there ‘I’ll keep you in my mind’ but that one is rather dirty, I
asked the girl to get me a new one, but she said very sorry, none, so I walked
straight to ‘Fair Deal’, bought Mum a cup with her Horoscope ‘Cancer’ designed
on it, the wording and the design are gold in colour, cost 3.50$, a playboy key
holder $1.00, gift tag 20￠, I bought myself a ring , black in colour, with
silver stars on it, I mean Horoscope star, 12 of them. My pocket is empty now.
Sleep till 5.00 o’clock. At night, Shir came, spend the time with her
till 12.00 midnight.
17 Dec 72 (Sun)
Went to the show ‘大军阀’with
Mum, started to read the story ‘Graduate’ interesting story.
19 Dec 72 (Tue)
The poor black guinea pig seems dying this morning, I
saw her struggle, feeling sad too, if our place got an animal doctor how nice.
21 Dec 72 (Thur)
The office girls said that the film now showing at
Majestic is damn nice, so at night we went to see, name of the film is ‘轻烟’, very nice story. MC phoned me
and promise to give me calendars.
I got some small diary from our office.
22 Dec 72 (Fri)
After work, about the time to go to bath, receive
phone call from office, Mrs. Wong asked me where did I put my ‘Mercantile Bank
Record Book’, I said on my table, but they find and search, still none, I think
carefully, and remember I’ve put it on Mr. Kok’s table together with an ‘Internal
transfer’s’ cheque and a debit not in it, they still saying none, I am very
scared at this moment, because Mrs. Wong said Mr. Kok gonna go down to KL
afterward and he wanted to open a cheque, he is black face now, I said may be
Toh has clear his table and kept it, ask Mrs. Soon to search, I don’t know they’ve
found it or not, and I dare not ring back.
Very upset for the whole night! At about eight, MC
came, bloody hell, didn’t bring the calendar for me, watch the TV, then he
suggested to go to the show ‘风从哪里来’，but full house, because
today is 冬节, Mum did cook chicken for dinner.
Went to the show ‘The Wrath of God’, not very nice. Drink a cup of Milo then went to bed, but couldn’t
sleep, Mum said serve me right, teach me a lesson, see I dare simply put my
thing and so careless or not next time.
Mrs. Soon crochet a skirt for me, workmanship 5
dollars. I bought two more thread costs
me 4.20$.
23 Dec 72 (Sat)
Went to the office so early, asked Mrs. Wong, could
they find the book, she said ‘no’, so I rush to Mr. Kok’s room, search here and
there, none, search Toh’s drawers and so on still none, at last I found it in
Toh’s tray.
Mrs. Soon had finished my skirt, no money to pay her,
actually it’s quite expensive, I got one whole roll of thread left, gave it to
Mrs. Soon, she should have less some for me.
Toh asked me whether I want to go to Penang with her
or not, I said I’ll like to go, no need to ask Mum，
because surely she’ll let me go, but she insist me to ring Mum up, surprisingly
Mum asked all the questions and gave me a bad scolding, so I told Toh I don’t
want to go already, actually I like to go so much, cos of this matter, Pair2 nearly
quarrel with Toh, I gonna explain to
them on Tuesday.
Bought two packets of curry rice to eat with Mum at
home, very bad mood, 1st scared Mr. Kok comes back and scold me, 2nd
no money to spend, 3rd can’t make the trip to Penang.
To buy the lining for my skirt, gonna ask 秀兰to do for me, wow! The whole skirt cost me nearly 15 dollars.
If at first I know it was so expensive, I won’t make
it.
To Perak Emporium, buy one box of sweet for fish, Cotton
& Boy, cos’ they gave me a letter pad for X’mas, Mum gave me smiley
stickers, and a paper weight written on it ‘I’ll keep on loving you’.
24 Dec 72 (Sun)
Went to Shir’s house twice, still not at home. Mum went there once and asked her mother to
tell her so when she comes back. Edward
phoned me and asked me to go to Don’s house and have a kick out tonight, I said
I’ll call Shir along.
At about six, Shir came over here, Mum spend her 粒饭，gave her a cross which bought from Perak Emporium.
A few days ago,
I asked Toh to send Shir a X’mas card, written in there a boy’s name
saying wanted to make friend with her, now she told me all about the X’mas
card, I tried not to laugh out, but at last I told her everything that these
are all my jokes.
Mum went to Ah Cheong’s wedding dinner. I dressed up and waited for them to come and
fetch me and Shir, Shir is not feeling quite well, we made a deal, that if she
go with me to night to the party, I’ll go to the Lab tomorrow, she agreed.
This were the lousiest party I’ve ever attended,
without any decoration, just used the old Fanfair tear into strips and stick on
the floor, just a cup of cold drink and a plate of ground nuts, lousy music,
everything was also lousy. At about
twelve, Shir wanted to go back first, I said I better follow her back for I didn’t
bring my key, and I didn’t enjoy much here.
Went back, hungry like hell, Mum accompany me down stairs to make a cup
of Milo and ate some biscuits then went to bed.
Mum told me not to go next time.
25 Dec 72 (Mon)
Today is the day of the birth of Jesus Christ, I mean
X’mas. Still sleeping soundly in the
bed, Yee Ku & Yee Kim came, woke me up, washed my face, then sat back at my
bed, and listen to their talking. Not
long, heard somebody is calling me, was Irene, I quickly dressed up, called two
big bowls of mee from opposite, play some records for her. Today Sar Ku invited us to have a lunch at
his house, I called Irene to come along, she said quite ‘malu’, but she came at
last.
Rocky suggested to go to ABJ Coffee House first, for
he wanted to buy half a dozen of cakes for Sar Kim. Sar Ku gave me a present, it was a Tussy
stick deodorant, Fish unwrapped my present, the box was quite nice, but inside
the sweets were so lousy, they all laugh at me, especially Irene laughed
most. I drank the pineapple juice,
period came again. I still dare to eat
the rambutans.
Lunch got Nasi Lemak, fried chicken, prawns and so on,
Irene ate quite a lot, and she was the last to finish.
Fish used her new camera and took some photos for
us. I’ve promised shir to go to the Lab
at two to three o’clock, so asked Sar Kim to take us back. Quickly took a bath, bought two packets of
chocolates for her, took a bus to her working place, in the bus, a boy try to
make friend with me, but I’ve got no mood to answer his questions. Reach there four already, talked for a while,
then went back together.
Watched the X’mas programme on TV till next morning 1
am.
26 Dec 72 (Tue)
Today is my turn to attend the phone call, lucky Mr. Y
is not in.
I got two beautiful calendars from my company
‘Mudajaya Const. Sdn Bhd’, they’ve printed quite a few, all are so nice, the
scenery of Japan.
27 Dec 72 (Wed)
Yang’s brother came, asked Rocky to go to ‘Tai Meng’
and made two spectacles for him, I hate him, asked you to do thing for him then
only come to your house, asked him to give diary & calendar, not even spare
one to us, but who bother about it.
Received Clarence’s letter last week, he hasn’t
decided to come to Ipoh yet, asked me to reply immediately, but I just kept his
letter aside, now he wrote a letter to scold me.
28 Dec 72 (Thur)
Phone to Cloud at lunch hour, just have a chat to her.
Actually, I intend to write a letter to scold back
Clarence, but Mum said better not lah, for she think he likes me, so I write a
letter to apologize for being letting him down.
29 Dec 72 (Fri)
Wow! Got so many things to do this few days, prepare
salary cheques and our S’pore bank got no money to pay our creditors, so Mr.
Kok was in bad mood, Ah Toh gave him the probation letter, he said ‘let’s
discuss it later’. So send T/T to S’pore,
got to run up and down to arrange everything,
so tired, feel don’t like working.
Edward phoned me said Tommy wanted to date shir out,
asked me to asked Shir, Shir spends Meehoon.
30 Dec 72 (Sat)
Got our salary today, phoned to Cloud again, but
talking halfway, the line has cut out.
Tried to phone RRI, but the Malay man said all have gone home
already. Tommy phoned me, I asked him to
fetch Shir at five o’clock, he asked whether I want to join them or not tonite,
I said ‘no’.
Went to the James Bond film ‘Diamonds are Forever’
with Mum, very excited, I don’t understand why they said not nice at all, I
feel worthwhile seeing it. Before we
went in, Mum and me just drop in the ABJ Coffee House, I order fresh milk and
sandwiches, used Mum 3.00$.
About six, watching TV, Shir came, asked me to join
her to-night. I said I don’t like that
bloody Edward, but she just kept on persuading, till I agreed to go with
her. Mum has gone to Kong2’s place. While I was dressing up, Peter and his girl
friend came, sat with them for awhile.
Shir said Tommy has come, but without Edward in the
car, I said I better not go, for Tommy is tackling Shir, how can I go to be the
‘lamp-bulb’ – 电灯胆，Ha! Shir pushes me into the car, I just sat there and kept quiet, shir
tried everything to please me, they fetch Edward at the Nam Kok Restaurant, I
hate Edward, but it was not nice to be angry when going out in a group, so I
tried to cheer myself up, but not quite so successful.
To the show ‘The Conquer of the Planet of the Apes’,
childish film. After the show we have a
small chew at the ‘Maxim Coffee House’, I order fresh milk again.
The waitress show Edward the bill, he dared not pay it
and let Tommy paid for it, Tommy spend the show also, that stingy fellow, made
me feel sick of him, that Tommy is still schooling, I think he is dead broke
now.
31 Dec 72 (Sun)
Fish’s birthday, bought a Walt Disney book shape
saving bank for her, costs three dollars.
Shir is not feeling well, so cancelled the show ‘Elephant
– my friend’.
Spend Mum to the show at Rex ‘让我哭吧！’ ,
so so la.
Watching TV’s singing programme at about twelve, Fat
phoned Mum said that his father has fainted down, asked Mum to call doctor, but
at these New Year’s Eve, who want to come, not very long, we all slept already,
Fat phone Mum again and said that his father has passed away. His granny still didn’t know about it. I couldn’t sleep well for the whole night.

Note of 1972
In the year 1972, everyday seems to be full of life
for me.
The most unforgettable things of 1972 are:

Found my new job in August
This time, I mean at the coming year, I gonna made
full use of my precious time, actually I love to read and write, so I better
write some short stories of my everyday life send to the Newspaper or just keep
it, better than lying on the bed and pass the time, I think I only write here,
and there’s no action to be taken, because I am rather lazy. Wake up! You lazy bone! Sleepy head! There
are lots of new things to be explored by you in 1973!
