1 March 73 (Thur)
Mr. Kok is leaving outstation this morning, let him
sign all the salary cheques. All was in
such a hurry that I didn’t get ready at all.
Ah Choong came to interview, seems know nothing, went
out to lunch together with him, I pay for the drinks.
Fat spend us to Maxim, bring Toto along. I ate a ‘Spring chicken en Casserole’ and ‘Maxim
Ice Cup’, Rocky orders a ‘Bomb Alaska’, almost the whole thing is made with egg
white, pour some Brandy on top, light the fire, quite special, but no good to
eat, after eating still don’t feel like moving, order sandwiches and Milo. Fat used 20$ over dollars.
2 March 73 (Fri)
Forgotten to write two employees’ salary cheque, Mr.
Liew asked me to gave my salary to them first, myself where got money, he must
be crazy, hate him. Also forgotten to
less Mr. Liew’s salary for loan, so afraid Mr. Kok’s scolding me.
A new girl came yesterday, sitting opposite me, our room
became more crowded. Shir came back to
head office today to attend the telephone.
Have our dinner at the Imperial Room, I like the
desert ‘Chinese Pan Cake’ most.
At 8.30 pm, to the show ‘The Adventurer’, very long
film, ended at 12.00 midnight. It’s
about the life history of a revolutionist.
3 March 73 (Sat)
Half day, after work have our lunch at Kong Fatt that
side, I spend, Shir haven’t cash her salary cheque, so she is dead broke.
Bought two cloths at ‘Kamdar’, one is for Mum. Cost me
11.00$. Pair2 sold her skirt to me, she
can’t wear it, wanted $6.00.
Jit Chew gave me a lift to buy tickets at ‘Lido’ for
the show ‘Fiddler on the roof’, show starts at 5.30pm, didn’t eat our dinner,
8.00 something after the show, felt so hungry, Mum buys a ‘Kentucky Fried
Chicken’ snack box for Rocky.
We order the mee from opposite.
It was a singing film.
4 March 73 (Sun)
Missed my book-keeping class on Friday, so asked Shir
to teach me today.
So damn warm that lazy to do anything.
They are playing Poker again. Mum cooked chicken porridge.
Still not yet received Clarence’s letter, I sent him
mine two weeks ago.
Throw all the rubbish under my table away, Toto likes
to bite them. Give my sandals to Sar
Kim.
Return Pair’s skirt to her tomorrow, too expensive and
not very nice also.
5 March 73 (Mon)
After the class, Fat spend us to Maxim, I ate Hamburger
& Mushroom soup, also ate sandwich & fresh milk, so damn full after
eating, bring Toto along too, everyone is praising him.
6 March 73 (Tue)
Took the cloth that I bought at ‘Kamdar’ that day to
asked Shir’s tailor to make it for me, went to ‘Bata’ and buy a pair of shoes,
quite nice and cheap, costs me only $7.90 only.
To the night show at Odeon ‘The Dynamite Man From The
Glory Jail’, never expected that the story is not bad.
7 March 73 (wed)
Toh is going to resign and studying in KL. So we gave her a farewell lunch at the
Station Hotel, everyone gave out $3.00, but $2,90 is for the set lunch of
ourselves, gave her 10￠
only, almost the whole office staff are going.
A present is given to Toh by all the staff, another 1
dollar is given out, Mrs. Soon bought the present from the ‘Lim Emporium’, we
will lost one friend. She is still owing
me some records and ‘Weekend’ magazine.
8 March 73 (thur)
Cheah Sai Keat our Company’s subcontractor is giving
us a lift back, send us back with his air condition Mercedes, before going
back, gave us a treat at the Malaysia Restaurant, shir & me making joke
that Pair2 is shy to see Cheah Sai Keat.
This few days I really enjoy my work, because we joke
a lot at the accounts room.
9 March 73 (Fri)
Pair2 and Miss Tan got their increment, so they spend
Toh, Mr. Liew & me to have our lunch at the Station Hotel, today’s set
lunch is fish and chips that I like a lot.
My hair is very weak, dry & yellow in colour, so
went to Helen and buy a bottle of ‘Hair Fresher’ $4.50.
10 March 73 (Sat)
Irene came into our room, and said that Mr. Goon is
inviting Ho & me to dinner tonight, together with the Japanese guests,
they’ve paid a visit to our office today, one of them looks very handsome, like
film star.
At 8.30 pm Mr. Goon & the handsome Japanese came
to fetch me, then Shir, Tan & Ho, the dinner is at the King’s Blue Diamond,
at first, we thought only the Japanese & us, but surprising to see so many
people were waiting for us already, MBM’s director Mr. Wong and his Polish
guests, so many people couldn’t sat at one table, so they join four tables
together. That Mr. Wong asked me &
Ho to join them, so I was placed in between a Polish & Japanese, our table
were all middle age business men, no fun at all.
But they are quite friendly. It was quite late before we left. Mr. Goon said tomorrow night we will meet
again, we just couldn’t refuse him, frankly speaking, I don’t feel like going.
11 March 73 (Sun)
Early in the morning, Pair2 came to my place, we just
have a walk to market, not long, Shir came over to join us. I intend to spend her to picture, but quite
tired and warm, so better stay at home, Mum played the piano, we sang together,
have our lunch and joked a lot. At about
5.00 pm, started to rain, so took an umbrella and send her back.
At 8.00 pm the Japanese and Mr. Goon came to fetch us
again, Irene drove the Company’s Mercedes, this time, we have our dinner at Kok
Kee Restaurant, I like the food here, so delicious, luckily to night only a few
of us, four of the Japanese, Mr. Goon, and four of us, Ho, Irene, Shir &
me, they suggested to go to dance, we refuse, for tomorrow we got to work, to
bowling, but too late, closed already, and it was shame to show them our
bowling alley only six lanes, they said Japan got 100 lanes, how to compare, so
at last decided to go car ride, show them our Japanese Garden and so on. At eleven o’clock, send them back to Merlin
Hotel. Irene picked a few of her clothes
and came to stay here for 1 night because her family has gone to S’pore,
leaving her alone. We talked till we get
tired and sleep.
12 March 73 (Mon)
Didn’t sleep well for two nights, last night Toto
disturbs us for the whole night.
Tonight, after my home work, went to the show ‘Soldier
Blue’, it was a nice show, have some refreshment at the ABJ Coffee House. Went to bed late again.
13 March 73 (tue)
Woke up in the morning, feeling a bit dizzy, intend to
take one day leave and sleep, but quite troublesome to take leave, so went to
work with my sleepy eyes, got so many works to do.
Went back, to bed straight away, sleep till seven
something, Shirley Lee drove her new car to my place, then to Irene’s house and
fetch her, took Shirley to Liew’s place, she wants to make a pants, spend them
to ABJ, used me $4.00. Have some makan
at the Diamond Restaurant.
14 March 73 (wed)
Today, everyone of us also bring something to the
office and eat, Mrs. Soon – biscuits, Mr. Liew – prawns cracker, Miss Chin –
cakes and so on, so I said today is children’s day.
Some thieves have came into our office last night, but
didn’t steal anything, just search everything and made the place untidy, pour
the glue on the typewriters and spoilt them, so took for repair.
SOCSO’s man came to check our SOCSO, spent him the
things they brought.
15 March 73 (thur)
Farewell dinner to Fat’s brother Ah Teck, Imperial
Room & Lee How Fook also full house, so to the Chow Kee Restaurant, Mum is
the host, used her 30$, after the dinner, to Far East Record Shop, bought 4 records,
one is Simon & Gaufunkel, Hank William, Platters, one Musical & one
Indian record ‘Elephant my friend’.
Bought one cloth at lunch hour, 1.60$ per yard, bought
3 ½ yd. for making Maxi. Wore my blue
Middie to work.
Tan said Shir today is very sad and cry, because of
the bloody Francis & all those idiot men made her cry.
