1972 9月1-15日（沙沙的烂英文日记）

1 September 72 (Fri)

Everybody got their pay today except me, because that John Teh had forgotten me already, so he writes a cheque to me, I got only 89.03/- only, deducted one week & EPF. Poor me, how to live this month.

Went to the Sakthi Commercial School to enter the short hand class, school fees & all that deposit etc costs me 15.00 dollars.  Classes started on Monday.

 

2 September 72 (Sat)

In the office, Ivan dated me to go out tonight, I accepted him.  Got a lot of works to do in the office.

At 8.00 pm Ivan came, I dress up and went out with him, we book the ticket first, then to Lien Seng to have a drink for a while, we’re going to the show ‘Red Sun’, quite nice.  After the show, he wanted to go to the King’s Hotel to meet his friend,  I insisted, so we have our supper at Marianne’s place, I don’t like to go back too late, but it’s almost 12.00 when I reach home.

 

3 September 72 (sun)

Went to the show ‘精武门’ with Mum, everybody has seen this picture twice, I don’t know what so good, 淇 sold two smocks for me 18.00$, I paid her 10$ still owe her 8$, this month I really dead broke.

 

4 September 72 (Mon)

To attend short-hand class, quite interesting subject if learn by heart.

 

5 September 72 (Tue)

Mr. Liew said that somebody from outside complained that I attend the phone very rudely, actually not rude, instead I scared, from now on I swear I won’t attend the phone any more, unless it’s my turn.

 

6 September 72 (Wed)

Every day I spend almost one dollar for my lunch, 淇 wanted me to sell some clothes for her, I bring there, but so busy no one have time to look at it.

 

8 September 72 (Fri)

Start to learn the Vowels, bought a new short-hand text book, $4.50 because the old one borrow from Shir was not so good.

 

9 September 72 (Sat)

To the show ‘群英会’ with Mum and Boy, bought a box of handky for Miss Wong as birthday present 3.20$, got only few bucks left.

At 6.45 pm, Ivan came and fetch me to Miss Wong’s house, don’t know the way, enquire two persons before we reach there. Quite a lot of food to eat, at about 9.00, we intend to go to the show, but everywhere full house, so we car ride to D.R. Park, have a walk there, then to Canning, included Miss Wong’s sisters and their friend, Chan also, we exchange car, I went to Chan’s old granny Morris, so malu.  We intend to go to the mid night show, but no good film for us.  So we went home at 11.30 pm.

 

10 September 72 (Sun)

To the Siamese Temple, because today is the day for ‘脱孝’, Kong2 is very sad, he cried out.  X-ray examined that Kong2 got stones in his gall bladder, have to operate on the 27^th of this month.

 

13 September 72 (Wed)

Bring along my short hand to do it in the office, because I haven’t finished, ask Irene to teach me.

The girl staffs in the office are very horrible, last time they teased me Ivan, I deny, now tease me Beh Chan (Patrick), made Chan feel so malu, because he is the shy type of person.

Received a letter from Clarence of RRI.

 

14 September 72 (Thur)

John Teh told me to stay back for overtime work, Shir came into the office to see why I took so long, I asked her to go back first, because YLS is sitting there.  We said we’re very hungry, so John Teh asked Anthony to buy some fried mee for us to eat.  At 7.40, Miss Tan’s father gives me a lift back.

Ah Choong gonna go back to Taiwan tomorrow, Shir wanted to spend him, I got no money, frankly speaking. We eat at the Canning, then, car ride to Kampar to meet Rocky there, he is with Cheah’s brother to help them to sell the beer.

Back to Ipoh to have our supper at ‘Lian Seng’, almost one before we went back.  Because tomorrow is Perak Sultan’s birthday, no work!

Fat spend lunch.

 

15 September 72 (Fri)

So scared that Mrs. Soon will call me to play ‘Machong’, I am dead broke now, still own 淇 8.00 and Mum 3.00$.

To the show ‘The Burglars’ with Fish, Cotton & Boy.  It’s a very nice show, very exciting one with Omar Shariff starring.

Ah Choong came, called Shir along to have his last supper in Canning, met YLS there, Mum asked him to offer a job for Shir, he said there’s no vacancy at the meantime, but he’ll keep her in mind.  He paid all the food for us.  Shir suggests to car ride to a haunted place near ‘Pulai’, the place is 4 miles long, we are so scared, close up all the windows, switch loud the car tape recorder, everybody is just keeping quiet, it is a narrow road with big trees grown from both side of the road, no lamp poles, Shir said near a small temple, once they saw a woman with white clothes lying in the middle of the road, they drove there, the woman disappeared, pass over, the women is lying there again. So horrible.

Have a bowl of 清补凉at opposite of our house.
